Game - Fighter Pilot

Here's an interesting twist on the old faithful, dodgeball.

You'll need two soft balls (that works for about 20 kids). Two kids are fighter pilots, flying around the room. Other participants are anti-aircraft artillery, who must stand still in positions spread around the room. They pass the ball to each other or try to shoot down any of the fighter pilots (when the ball hits a fighter pilot). If one of the artillery manage to shoot an aircraft down, they became the fighter pilot, and the destroyed plane becomes artillery.

You'll probably need a couple of leaders or nominated kids to be scavengers, to pass stray balls back to those artillery in the field of play.

When this is played in a fairly confined space (like a Scout hall), with about 20 kids, it's quite a fast game... you'll probably need a leader to keep shouting out the names of the kids who are the current fighter pilots, because if they stand still it gets a bit confusing!!

Game - Airplane

A quick, energetic game for Cubs...

Everyone pretends to be planes (arms straight and up, making engine noises) flying around the room. The planes have to avoid hitting each other.

The person conducting the game shouts commands:

"Bad weather", all 'planes' have to land (slide to a stop on their knees).
"Turbulence", all 'planes' jump up and down as they move around the room.
"Engine failure", all 'planes' crash to the ground
"Mid air collision", 'planes' have to High Five each other as they fly around
"Spitfire", make machine gun noises
"Bombs", make bomb noises
"Taxi", walk around really slowly

Let us know if you can think of any other commands!

If you want, you can just run it without any competition OR you can make the last person to do each command "hit the ground" - then they have to stand on the spot, becoming an obstacle for other planes.
